I AM LIBERTY CITY

April Washington

Success Coach and Special Programs Coordinator
Why Miami Children’s Initiative?

Miami Children’s Initiative has given me that avenue to help serve my community to thrive to its highest potential.

What’s the best part of your work?

The best measure of my work is witnessing the services we provide actually meeting the needs of the children and families.

What’s your most memorable MCI experience?

My most memorable experience was teaching my students a dance for our MCI’s Thanksgiving Event. I actually dance with them, this was an amazing feeling collaborating with my students. The students made me so proud because they most definitely had the drive and tenacity during our rehearsals. Which truly was shown through the beautiful dance we presented!

How has MCI impacted your life?

MCI has impacted my life tremendously; I obtain the privilege to service individuals that society overlooks in our community. We have seen several situations arise within our community core and continually strive to help implement solutions. For instance, MCI established a peace walk in the Liberty City community; an area known for high violence on a regular basis. Also, MCI provides career services, engages the community for every major holiday to administer necessities (School uniforms, turkeys, christmas gifts and much more) and provide food for our children and families. Therefore, MCI has given me a platform to serve our children and families with action and love.

Please name your favorite childhood character real or imaginary.
